*** If you are on Dialysis, colon hydrotherapy cannot be administered.

Before a Session

  • The days before the appointment, eat as many water content foods as possible, i.e. raw and cooked green leafy vegetables, raw vegetable drinks and whole grains. This will start hydrating the colon to ease your experience.
  • Try to cut down on all processed foods, i.e. white flour products, cheese, dried foods, greasy foods and sugar. These foods have a tendency to dehydrate the colon and can make the experience more challenging.
  • Avoid eating 1-2 hours before the colon hydrotherapy appointment.
  • Avoid drinking liquids 1 hour before. It can make your bladder full during the colon hydrotherapy session.
  • Avoid all diuretic foods one day prior to your appointment, including: coffee, tea or soda. These can dehydrate and also make the bladder full.
  • Drink lots of water in the days prior to your session to best hydrate yourself, but try not to drink too much water the day of your session so that your bladder is not full during the session.
  • If it is your first session with the practitioner, please complete the online intake forms or arrive 15 minutes early to complete the requested forms.

The Session

At HEAL Wellness Center, Adrienne uses a state-of-the-art, FDA registered class II closed device, which uses a 3 stage filter and temperature and pressure controlled water. The client lies comfortably on a therapy table, and with the assistance of the therapist, connects to a Colon Cleansing device through a one time use, disposable speculum/rectal nozzle kit. The therapist then gently introduces low pressure water into the colon through the speculum, and water gently circulates through the colon, loosening and softening the waste material. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, which may create a slight sensation of cramping, the therapist adjusts the flow so that water can release, and fecal matter can evacuate through the waste hose into the device and straight into the plumbing system. As water and waste flows out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the client can view their elimination. This process is repeated throughout the session, which can last approximately 35-45 minutes. Please keep in mind that you should allot additional time after the session for use of the restroom immediately following the session.   To ensure maximum sanitation, we use a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle for each client, and the area is sanitized before/ after each session. Clients wear gowns for privacy, ease and comfort during the session. There is no odor throughout the session, and the integrity of the client is maintained at all times.   In addition, the practitioner stays attuned to each client, using bodywork in areas that need attention. By working the body meridians and reflexology points, it can help to stimulate the bodily functions to work in conjunction with the colonic session, opening the gates for more release. For clients who are candidates and who desire an add-on therapy to optimize the effectiveness of the colonic session, implants (coffee, hydrogen peroxide, chlorophyll + greens, ozonated water, aloe vera, essential oils, and/ or probiotics) or bio-electric lymphatic drainage therapy are also available as an add-on services (please see Bio-Electric Lymphatic Drainage page or Colon Hydrotherapy Implants page).

After a Session

  • It is best to eat light foods that are easy on the digestive system, i.e. steamed vegetables, soup and light protein (fish, chicken, tofu). Avoiding nuts, salads, and icy foods and drinks.
  • Drink more water to continue hydrating.
  • Days following the session should be filled with vegetables (raw and steamed), soup, fruits, whole grains and pure water (not tap). Salads and raw foods have great enzymes and fiber.
  • For better health, avoid anything processed, bottled or canned; sugar, pasteurized dairy and all whites/starches (sugar, flour, rice). For more in depth nutrition planning, consult a nutritionist and/or your resident Naturopathic Doctor.
  • Adding ¼ tsp. pink salt to your water will help absorption.
  • Adding 2 tbsp. of lemon or 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in your water can help alkalize the body.

Detox Symptoms

Although there are no symptoms as a direct result of colon hydrotherapy, colon cleansing can sometimes stimulate the release of toxins from the body, which can result in a healing crisis, or detoxification symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and/ or fatigue. However, every experience varies from client to client. Some clients report less constipation, more regular bowel movements, an emotional release in conjunction with their physical release, and/ or an increased sense of well-being and overall health. For all clients receiving services, we recommend hydrating well after sessions to help aid in the detoxification process.
